God bless our sweet "Kiva" who passed into heaven today. She had a short-lived battle with cancer - hemangiosarcoma. Thank you to the Animal Hospital of Woodstock for taking such good care of her. We miss her so much.

Kiva was born on December 13, 1998, so she was 11 years old! She completed her CH title, as well as both her JH and her NA and NAJ titles! At 8 years old she ran the Novice Jumpers course for a perfect score and first place, turning to me as if to say, "I could have done this along time ago you silly Mom!" Kiva had two beautiful litters, and eleven puppies, and she is a Gramma to six litters - two out of Kody and four out of Jolie! If Jenna is pregnant, Kiva would be a great-gramma! She mostly loved birds, her buddy Kola, her Daddy Larry and, of course, her Grampa Richie - one of her true favorites!!! I know she loved me, too, and in her last moments, told me she would find Kola in heaven and chase him once again! XOXO We will miss you pretty Miss Kiva and know your legacy will be long lived. Thank you Gwen, Sharon and Carl for my perfect girl vizsla!

Winston showed beautifully and made the cut in both the Nationals and the NC Specialty with over 150 champion vizslas! At the NC specialty, the judge only cut 12 boys out of 37 and Win was one of them! :-)

We have in Canada a Multiple Best in Show, with four other Best in Shows, and now the winner of the Show of Shows in Ottawa, which is a competition put on by the Ottawa Kennel Club every year with all of the BIS winners of shows in Canada for one year. And Malek has won! He is the first Vizsla in history to win this award! He also won another BIS and a Group 1 on Saturday/Sunday. Malek was bred by Jacqueline Veillette, is owned by Marie-Renee Doyon and Mary-se (and also Jacqueline) and was sired by our sweet Kave!!! :-) See you at the Westminster!!!

Kola had a wonderful day on Friday, watching HIS tree in the backyard and chasing birds! He spent about 4 or 5 hours in the sunshine on a crispy Fall day. He had a great dinner and snuggled next to Larry and Kiva for a cozy night sleep. Shortly after midnight he began to breath heavy and felt chilled. He left us on this earth less than two hours later. I was at the Vizsla Nationals in Tucson, AZ so I did not get to say good-bye. Loretta and Larry were with him - he wagged his tail and they kissed him for me, telling him he was the "best boy". Kola Bola, I love you!!!

Hi! In addition to a wonderful weekend in Illinois, there was some excitement Ontario, Canada at the National Specialty show... It was a Vizsla weekend in Canada Saturday and Sunday at Woodstock, Ontario near Toronto and very good news for one of Kave's (CH Sunnyside's Coffee at Dawn NA NAJ) sons, Malek's(MBIS, BISS Ch Akar Malek by Faithful Miro CD): saturday all breed show : breed over 36 vizslas and Group 3 over 140 dogs and many top dogs in canada Ontario Specialty : BISS over 57 vizslas Sunday National Specialty : AOM over 53 vizslas all breed show : BIS over 600 dogs !!! What a weekend for our MBIS, BISS Ch Akar Malek by Faithful Miro CD ! Kave and Derbi (Akar Vizslas) did a great job with their babies !! Malek is #7 in sporting dogs in Canada for now !! There were several others of the Kave kids out of both Akar's Derbi and Flash that also achieved very merit worthy placements. Csoda (KodyXFlash) went Reserve Winners Dog! Salsa (KaveXDerbi) took first place in her class! The mix ok Akar of Sienna Pointe is spectacular! Thank you to breeder, Jacqueline Viellette and her beautiful girls!!! On Saturday the 8th at Petaluma, Keema took Best of Breed in her first outing as a champion!!! She didn’t win anything in group but I realized that as a dog showing in group, a cheering section is KEY – Alas, no one was there for me. Kim was busy watching Roti in the puppy ring - I think there was just one or two Vizsla buddies cheering for us. Her half brother Roti, won group 3 in the best puppy competition!!! And then on Sunday the 9th at Petaluma, Keema took Best of Opposite! Go girl!!! While Roti didn’t earn any points, he looked awesome! On Sunday, he was showing like a practiced pro. We had Erin Piercy handling him – he was a really good boy! So well behaved! What a transformation! He is a lot of fun to show!!! He is sooooooo good looking! They got their rewards by a romp on Dillon Beach south of Bodega Bay. We had a picnic on the beach – which was a challenge – eating at a dog’s level! A good training experience. On the way back to the car, we were passing an unattended beach camp and I said we didn’t need to leash the dogs as it was a good training opportunity. Well, Roti and Keema went right for the goods and they ferreted out some good takings before I was able to get control. Well, afterwards, I was in the dog house along with the dogs!!! Some lookers on, thought it was rather amusing and told us that the seagulls had already been there picking at the food, so I didn’t feel too bad. -Margaret

Sienna Pointe Vizslas of Northern California had a fantastic weekend that deserves mucho bragging!!! There was a three day show in Santa Rosa this past weekend (August 17,18,19) in which three Vizsla beauties were entered; Keema, Roti, and Stella. For Roti and Stella, two of Kalei’s and Kirby puppies, it was their FIRST show. They were 6 months on August 2. Keema, who had 11 points coming into the show, needed one more major. Margaret has been the sole handler for Keema and had done pretty well with her as a pup up to 18 months old. However, when she entered Open class, competition got serious as she was up against a lot of nice bitches and their professional handlers. So this time, Margaret got smart and hired a professional to show Keema. As it turns out, this was a SMART move on her part. Keema won reserve on Friday AND reserve on Saturday AND went Best of Winners on Sunday for a 3 point major!!! Yahoo!!! One point to go and then it’s off to BOB!!! I have to say (and I am not biased at all) that she was one gorgeous V out there!!! I was wondering why she showed so much better with a professional. I think it’s a combination of the handlers who have a lot of experience with the breed and having the change of being with someone else. She really likes new people and she definitely looked a lot more interested than I have seen her recently. And that’s not all! Margaret, showing Roti, took reserve on Friday AND Sunday and won Best of Winners and Best of Opposite on Saturday for a 4 point major!!! We received many compliments from lots of people on Roti’s beauty and poise. He was super in the ring – very intense and focused on his handler! Stella is visiting for the summer and she wanted to see what the show ring was like so we entered her too. Margaret and a professional handler took Stella in (so Margaret didn’t have to be in the ring with Keema). She was quite spunky!!! I had to do the down and back twice because she was galloping!!! On Sunday, she took reserve, beating 5 bitches!!! Go Stella Bella! I think her owner, Carrie Matuga, has a pretty good idea of what the show scene is all about now. For reward, we took the dogs to Dillon Beach, a very nice beach just south of Bodega Bay. Pics are included Well, our adventure continues. Next week we will be in Santa Barbara for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shows. All three Vs are entered for that one too. Hopefully, our near champion will be a CH by then!!! We want to give you some news from Malek..... Malek did his second leg for the CD on Saturday, August 4th and t he took the second place in the group at the Société canine de Québec dog show on Sunday, August 5th! What a Versatile Vizsla!!! There were 133 dogs in the group including 13 english setter specials and 18 specials flat coat and the english setter (first place in group) won the BIS !! Malek was so close to his first big show in Quebec (308 dogs with Booster and speciality Flat coat and english setter speciality)!!! Very cool! What a handsome boy! And what very happy owners! Congratulations!

Congratulations to Malek (DerbieXKave) for receiving his Canadian Championship at his second show!!! He also was invited to the Royal Canin Classique and was awarded a Group Three!!! We are so proud of Marie-Renee!!!

At the beginning of May, Malek won 2 pts (in the breed) at his first show. At the end of May, at his second show he became a Canadian Champion with a Sporting Group Two!!! At Trois -Rivières last weekend for the Royal Canin Classique (where all and only the dogs who did BIS or first group in the last 12 month are invited), he was awarded third place in the group !!

Congratulations to Rusty Clayton (DerbieXKody) and his owners Jim and Donita who, in his first show, took Winners Reserve in conformation out of the puppy class! Nice showing and handling by his owner, Jim!!!

Today was Rusty's and Jim's first conformation show!!! There were six boys entered and Rusty took Winner's Reserve!!! Jim was also the only owner handler!!! Awesome job! Brewski's sister, "Karma", owned and bred by Gwen Tomlinson, was also at the show and took second in her Bred By Exhibitor class!!! If I was not delivering Jolie's puppies, I would have been there!!! I was there in spirit. Good luck tomorrow! You can do it! By the way, Gwen saw Rusty for the first time today and LOVED him! She said that Rusty was the kind of dog that, as a breeder, she would have kept from the litter! He is also very birdee! :-)

Jolie and Chase were each born on the 15th of their month! So it makes sense that Jolie held out until today!!! LePoudres and Gallaghers are very happy and having cocktails and dinner! I also found out that Derbie (one of Kody's girlfriends) was also born on June 15th! Lucky day!

Hip Hip Horray! Brewski got his first leg toward his Junior Hunt title today up at Ottawa at the Vizsla Club of Illinois Hunt Test!

Brewski did a very good job today in his first qualifying leg of his Junior Hunt title!!! He scored an 8 in trainability, a 7 in bird finding, a 7 in hunt ability and a 6 on his point.! He was very happy out in the field, despite the heat!

Copper Roberts received a bug bite of some type on Wednesday evening and had a severe allergic reaction. Anna and Gabby, his owner, rushed him to the ER and, just in time, to administer medication and assist in reviving him! Copper was in shock. We are so thankful that Anna, Gabby and their friends and training buddies reacted so quickly and mindfully and were able to provide care for our sweet boy Copper!!! Gabby almost had to drive, but their trainer, Kathy, came to the rescue and drove safely but quickly to the ER. In addition to Dr. Meiser building an emergency kit for Anna to have on hand, liquid Benedryl is also quite handy to have for an immediate allergic reaction. See your Vet for details and recommendations in case of an emergency. This is not a genetic problem, but dogs can be severely allergic, just like humans, and are at risk of very severe reactions.

Szuka achieves her Junior Hunter title with STRAIGHT NINES up at Eagle, WI!!!

Congratulations to Ruth, Jeff, and Szuka for a beautiful series of passes toward Szuka's Junior Hunter title, earned at the CWVC Hunt Test in Eagle, Wisconsin! Szuka's third run was two 10's, a 9, and a bit less than that for trainability, since she would not leave the birds that she followed into the woods! Great job!!! As many of you know, Szuka was born with a bit of a birth defect, having only two toes on her right front foot. She is scheduled for surgery on her foot and leg in the Fall, but she is a very determined girl and her ability to run FAST with 3.5 legs is amazing!!! Jeff thinks her will begin training for Senior Hunt after she recovers from her surgery!!! Larry and I, and Ginger and John Tierney, Sky’s owners are forever grateful to the wonderful care and love that Jeff and Ruth and Ren (Vizsla boy out of Sue Prim’s breeding) have for Miss Szuka. She is a very special girl with loads of love to give and receive!!! Szuka is so happy with her life and that is the most important thing!!!

Jolie is officially pregnant and due with the Jolie/Chase puppies around June 13th!

Kiira's temperature dropped to 98.4 degrees at 3AM on Sunday, May 6th!!! She began her delivery at 2AM on Monday, May 7th, with little Pink Girl born at 14 ounces! The four boys came next, all weighing in at 14 ounces! Little Purple Girl was the last born at 8:30AM weighing 12 ounces! All are eating well and sleeping next to their sweet Mommie!
