CH Kalei's Keema of Sienna Pointe		Keema

Our Yellow girl from Kalei’s first litter is named Keema. Keema is Hindi for “ground meat and the sauce that covers it”. She earned this name because she is in a household of 6 Burmese cats, each named after an Indian spice.

From the get-go, Keema has been very outgoing, extremely friendly, self-confident, and adventurous. At her first show (she was 6 months old); she jumped up on the judges table and grabbed the ribbon she wanted. In her puppy class, she intimidated the other, not so socialized, puppies with her “friendliness”. She is not shy at all of the big dogs. One of her favorite playmates is a boy Rhodesian Ridgeback, named Hunter. He weighs 110 lbs.

Although she is on the smaller side of the breed, she thinks she is really big!

Keema is flirtatious (she especially LOVES the boys), exuberant (she’ll put her arms around anyone and happily mug them), passionate (she will play any game any time full throttle), affectionate (she insists on a good snuggle under the covers).

Keema’s favorite game is fetch – her style – sometimes she brings it right back to you, and sometimes…she doesn’t. In the dog park, she loves to fetch the toy and then tease all the other dogs, trying to get them to chase her.

She gets a lot of exercise as well as exposure to other dogs during her doggy day care, and on weekends, when we take her on off-lead Vizsla walks with other Vizsla owners. Walks with other Vizslas are really great fun because you get together with lots of other red dogs who play in similar ways – and you get exercise too!

At 21 months, she has calmed down a lot. We’ve noted that she is not a morning girl – her preference is to wake up with you, go out to pee, and then go back to bed. She loves to burrow under the covers and for that, she has her very own fleece sleeping bag.

After graduating from puppy class, we started her in puppy agility. She was extremely good at all the obstacles and was pretty fearless about the heights etc. However, she lacked the discipline to follow commands like stay. So we enrolled her in obedience class, training her for both canine good citizen and rally. On December 11, she passed her CGC test!

We have continued to show Keema in conformation. So far, she has earned 11 points, including one 3-point major.

We also took her to Nationals this year (2006) in Dover Delaware, where she earned fourth place in puppy sweepstakes, third place in her class at the specialty show, and her first leg of rally obedience. We are very proud of our little girl, as Margaret is doing the conformation showing and Kimberly is doing the obedience trials. We should also mention that we got there by driving – it was a 3 week trip in all and Miss Keema was a fantastic traveler!!! She never whined, unless she had to go, and never was fussy, noisy, or otherwise bothersome. A real trooper!!!

Keema’s Inimitable Ways

We remark often on how much Keema is like a child. When you are giving attention to anyone else, pet or human, – she gets so jealous! She will often grab something with her mouth and present it to you for play!

She now has a repertoire of tricks; one that we really like is the high-five. She’d a lot like her Mommy in that she uses her paws to do things and express herself.

She is so food motivated that when she sees a treat in your hand, and you just look at her, her immediate response is to sit, then lie down, offer her paw, roll on her back and anything else she can think of, in the hopes that one of those is the right thing to do.

She loves to nuzzle between your legs – which gets some people a little wigged out! (but not if they are a Vizsla owner.) She also loves to “closely monitor you” when you are in the bathroom – an experience that makes me really crack up.

New Fun for Keema and Her Mommy’s!!!

So Keema now has a baby brother, Roti, also out of Kalei but sired by Kirby. He is fast becoming her favorite dog! Stay tuned for stories from this duo!
